NBA: Detroit Pistons (21-21) vs Houston Rockets (28-13)
ODDS: Houston – 7.5 – Over/Under 233.5
PREVIEW: The Houston Rockets continued their impressive breakout campaign with a dominant 125-103 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday, securing their sixth win in seven games. Now, they aim to extend their winning momentum as they host the Detroit Pistons in back-to-back home games starting Monday.
Rockets Riding High
Alperen Sengun and Jalen Green, both of whom signed extensions in the offseason, played pivotal roles in the win. Sengun delivered a stellar performance with 23 points, 15 rebounds, and six assists, while Green added 26 points and five rebounds.
The dynamic duo of Green and Sengun has been in sync lately, contributing significantly to the Rockets’ success. Houston boasts a .683 winning percentage at the halfway mark of the season—their best since their 65-17 run in the 2017-18 season, where they advanced to the Western Conference Finals. This season, the Rockets have already surpassed their win totals from the previous three seasons before last year’s .500 finish.
Even with their current standing as the second seed in the West and maintaining a top-five defense in the NBA, the Rockets continue to strive for consistency. Their focus remains on stabilizing an offense that has shown flashes of brilliance.
Pistons Seeking Stability
Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons find themselves in a similar mindset despite facing recent setbacks. Following a 125-121 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Saturday, their second consecutive defeat, the Pistons remain at .500 after a stretch where they won seven of eight games. Detroit currently sits in eighth place in the East.
Fourth-year guard Cade Cunningham has been the driving force behind the Pistons’ resurgence, averaging 24.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 9.4 assists per game. In the loss to the Suns, Cunningham tallied 20 points, six rebounds, and 11 assists. With Jaden Ivey sidelined due to a broken leg, Tobias Harris’s 2.5 assists per game rank second among available Pistons players.
Improving offensive distribution remains a key focus for the Pistons as they seek better outcomes in the second half of the season.
